Educate, don't sell

Remind staff they are sharing information about available options — not selling a product. Pet owners appreciate being informed, not pressured.

Practice with your team

Role-play the script during staff meetings so everyone feels comfortable and confident before using it with clients.

Personalize the conversation

Use the pet's name and tailor the discussion to the specific breed or species to make the conversation feel genuine and relevant.

Follow up at checkout

If the client isn't ready to enroll at the appointment, have front desk staff revisit the conversation during checkout as a natural closing opportunity.

Best practice tipNew puppy and kitten visits are one of the highest-converting opportunities for plan enrollment. Clients are emotionally engaged and motivated to do everything right for their new pet — this is the ideal moment to introduce the value of preventive care plans.
