Why does Authorize.Net Account Updater repeatedly flag the same card?
Occasionally a pet owner's card is repeatedly flagged each month by the Authorize.Net Account Updater service as "Contact Card Holder." When this happens, the payment profile displays in Petly Plans highlighted in yellow with the word "Attention" to alert staff that the credit card has been flagged.
The Account Updater service depends on information provided by card networks (issuers). It has no method of validating whether that data is accurate — it can only use what the card networks supply each month. If a pet owner's card processes normally when re-entered, their issuer may have incorrect or incomplete data on file. Direct the cardholder to contact their issuing bank for more information.
Cardholders can opt out of Account Updater with their issuer. This may explain why stored payment data isn't updated when Account Updater runs, or why certain cards are repeatedly flagged without apparent cause.
Account Updater only applies to Visa and Mastercard. If a card is repeatedly flagged, switching to an alternative payment method is a reliable long-term workaround.
